My name is Zarrin Maani and I am a filmmaker specializing in producing and shooting documentary and experimental films. I graduated in December 2012 from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television production. Over the course of my academic and professional career, I have had opportunities to work in film production and post-production, animation, script-writing, and graphic and web design.
I was born in Santiago, Chile, to French and Iranian parents. We lived in Hong Kong for 9 years and then moved to Dali in Yunnan Province, China. I spent most of my youth in that rural town, playing badminton, eating Hawflakes, and getting into fights with my siblings.
In 2008, I left home and enrolled part time at Shaanxi Normal University in Xi'an, where I studied contemporary and modern Chinese Poetry and Literature. One year later I was accepted into NYU's Journalism Department where I was eager to become an investigative journalist. Soon afterward I transferred myself to film school, and I've been completely in love with film ever since.
